Investing in innovation, no matter how painful it may seem, is often good and can often lead to cost savings and improve overall competitiveness.
Southeastern Alberta is already open minded about change. Three new industries are operating or building new businesses in this region. Hut 8 Mining, Aurora and Capital Power Corporation are businesses that will lead the way in building new opportunities for employment growth and change.
As new industries emerge in our region, APEX Alberta (with support from Alberta Labour) has developed a series of education sessions to raise awareness about these emerging industries and trends. Business and community members are encouraged to examine these emerging industries and learn how to better prepare for jobs of tomorrow.
Three events entitled “Emerging Industries & The Future of Work” will be held at the Medicine Hat College.
The first full-day event on September 20, 2018 will unpack some of the mystery around Blockchain and Cryptocurrency.
The day will be divided into 4 sessions with Linda Nazareth, Economist and Author as the keynote speaker. She will explore workforce trends, changes and challenges.
Elena Dumitrascu, an expert on blockchain and cryptocurrency, will discuss these topics and explain how organizations are adapting to workforce innovation and blockchain transformation in their industries.
We are also excited to have our city’s local developer, Andrew Kiguel, CEO of Hut 8 who will introduce their business, their industry and developments here in our local region. Andrew will be joined by Julie Sullivan, the HR Director for Canada & US Operations and Jeffrey Mason, Managing Director of Bitfury Canada, and they will copresent on job opportunities in our region, followed by a Q & A.
And finally, we will host a panel discussion with all of the days’ speakers with a Q & A session on the days’ presentations and topics discussed.
