Women-owned businesses face significant financing hurdles and challenges in accessing capital. This one-day interactive conference is about learning where private capital can be sourced, learning new systems and helping to break down those challenges.  

Join this interactive conference where participants will engage with skilled private sector investors, venture capitalists and business owners from across Alberta.

Speakers will share their expertise about how to scale your business, including resources you may not be aware of or are unfamiliar with how to access, as well as new methods of attracting private sector capital to grow your business ventures.

Our Speakers Include:

  • Leaders from The 51, Canada’s largest women led financial platform and venture capital firm investing in sectors that include Food & AgTech and Sustainability & Environment. In part, they use education as a tool to teach women how to raise money and how to become investors. 

  • Teresa Spinelli, President and Owner of The Italian Centre Shop, widely known for both her down-to-earth leadership as she’s achieved great success growing this business in Alberta as well as for her community impact.

  • Michelle Scarborough, past Managing Partner of Thrive Venture Fund and Women in Technology Venture Fund at BDC Capital, one of the largest venture funds in Canada focused on the tech sector. She will share advice from the more than 25 years of experience she has gained as an entrepreneur and investor in various industries.  

  • Lindy Kennedy, Team Lead Alberta Central Prairies Region overseeing The Scotiabank Women Initiative in this region (among other responsibilities). The Scotiabank Women Initiative is committed to helping women grown their business, advance their careers and invest in their futures.

  • Patrick Lor, Managing Director of Panache Ventures, a venture capital fund financing pre-seed and seed capital to startup companies. They have funded one hundred start-ups, reported to be the third most active fund in Canada.
